Tag: 夜上海论坛MC C-NS edges Corning, wins regional Class AA football title

first_img Tags: C-NSfootball The Northstars started out as if no dramatics would be required. Farouk Ibrahim’s 60-yard return on the opening kickoff set up an immediate touchdown that Mike Washington scored on a 15-yard run less than two minutes into the game. After Corning went up 8-7 on Mike Freeman’s 10-yard TD run and a two-point conversion, the Northstars quickly responded, driving to the Hawks’ five before quarterback J.J. Razmovski scrambled into the end zone.In the last minute of the first quarter, C-NS had the ball at midfield. Going deep, Razmovski found Adron Pafford, and the 50-yard touchdown, plus Osier’s third consecutive successful extra point, had the Northstars enjoying a 21-8 lead. But that was the last time C-NS would find the end zone, a tribute to a Corning defense that clamped down throughout the game’s middle stages, but also a reflection of mistakes that nearly derailed the Northstars.Recovering a Hawks fumble inside the Corning five right before halftime, C-NS could not capitalize, Razmovski intercepted in the end zone by Justin Rodriquez. Then, after Corning cut the deficit to 21-14 on Ja’Ovian Fisher’s one-yard TD run in the third quarter, the Northstars drove inside the Hawks’ 15, and Razmovski ran for a second TD – only to have it called back on a holding penalty. Those errors loomed larger when Fisher scored from 17 yards out with 9:40 to play and Corning gambled, going for two and the lead – and got it to move in front 22-21.Now needing to put a drive together, C-NS did so in the closing minutes. By far, the biggest play came on the Corning 39 where, facing third-down-and-20, Razmovski found Pafford in double coverage for a 22-yard gain.Working down the rest of the clock, the Northstars would have preferred to get a touchdown and not put it all on Osier -but when it had to, the senior delivered the biggest kick of his high school career. And now it’s C-NS in the same state semifinal round where Lancaster (in 2017) and Rochester Aquinas (in 2018) stopped them. Here, McQuaid (who rallied late to beat Lancaster 32-28 in its regional final) provides the opposition, and either the Northstars or Knights will get to the Dome Dec. 1 for a state championship game against New Rochelle or Shenendehowa.Share this:FacebookTwitterLinkedInRedditComment on this Story Andrew Osier didn’t have to do much – just kick a ball through the uprights at a distance similar to the extra points he had converted so many times throughout the fall.Only in this instance, a game, a season and the dream of a state championship for the Cicero-North Syracuse football team hung in the balance. One second showed on the clock in Saturday night’s Class AA regional final at Vestal High School. The Northstars had squandered a 13-point lead to Section IV champion Corning, and had seen a clutch drive stall just short of the Hawks’ goal line.center_img For a long while, Osier waited as Corning spent a time-out, attempting to unnerve him. Then Osier lined up, watched as the snap arrived and then calmly kicked it – straight and true.Within moments, the entire C-NS roster was on the field, celebrating a 24-22 victory that continued a remarkable run of dramatic post-season wins and allows the Northstars to play on home turf at Bragman Stadium next weekend for the state semifinals against Rochester McQuaid.Given the big comebacks that C-NS made to defeat Liverpool and Utica Proctor to earn its third consecutive Section III title, it only figured that this game would have its own rally – only from the other side.last_img read more

Tag: 夜上海论坛MC NFL Draft 2019: George Kittle says fellow Iowa tight ends Noah Fant, T.J. Hockenson will have Day 1 impact

first_imgPhenomenal play all around as Nate Stanley finds T.J. Hockenson for the @HawkeyeFootball bomb. The gain led to a Noah Fant TD and a tie game at Kinnick: pic.twitter.com/Wyru9UNw3T— Big Ten Network (@BigTenNetwork) September 23, 2018However, Kittle did not hesitate to reject any notion of him being a better prospect than Fant or Hockenson.”Definitely T.J. and Noah are both higher prospects than I was,” he said. “I only had like 40 catches total at Iowa, I think they each had 40 in one year. “They’re pretty and they’re going to do a lot of really good things. I’m just happy to be in the conversation with those guys because they had a special college career.” Dallas Clark, a Super Bowl champion with the Colts, was a first-round pick out of Iowa and enjoyed 11 seasons in the NFL. Kittle had to wait until the fifth round to hear his name called in 2017, but the 49ers star set the single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end last year.Neither Fant nor Hockenson will have to be that patient, and Kittle has no doubt in their ability to become the latest Hawkeye tight ends to excel in the NFL. I’m pretty sure he has multiple strength records at Iowa, he’s not just this skinny, lanky fast kind, he’s incredibly strong and powerful. He’s gonna be incredible. With this TD grab on Saturday, Noah Fant became the all-time leader in TDs by a Tight End in program history | #TDTuesday pic.twitter.com/IEZVVuyod8— Hawkeye Football (@HawkeyeFootball) September 18, 2018″Then you’ve got T.J., who’s just ‘Mr Do it All,’ he’s like a Swiss Army knife. He can run block, he can go against [defensive] ends, linebackers, safeties, it doesn’t matter, he just gets it done, catches every ball you throw to him.”He just has a great attitude every single day, I was in the locker room [with them] for only a year but, being able to keep in touch with both those guys since I’ve graduated, they’re both incredibly hard workers and whatever team they get drafted to they’re going to impact them in a positive way [from] day one.”As for why Iowa consistently produces such great players at the position, Kittle credited veteran Iowa strength coach Chris Doyle and an offense and locker room mindset that help make the jump to the NFL less daunting.”They do a really good job in the strength program with Coach Doyle,” Kittle said. “He just really takes young guys and builds on their frames and prepares them for the NFL level. The offense that we run is very pro-style and the attitude around the locker room is very football-oriented. Every day you show up and it’s football, I think that’s a great thing, it gets guys in the right mindset, and it definitely prepares you for the next level.”#MondayMotivationAttack the week like @HawkeyeFootball TE T.J. Hockenson attacks blocking. pic.twitter.com/stWA47lmP8— Big Ten Network (@BigTenNetwork) October 15, 2018Having flown under the radar two years ago, Kittle accepts his rise to stardom may have helped boost the hype Fant and Hockenson have received.”I think maybe a little bit,” he said when asked if he paved the way for them to be first-rounders. “You don’t want to sleep on Iowa tight ends because we all have some fun and I think Iowa’s put out a lot of good tight ends that have made a lot of big plays and impact a lot of NFL teams. If I’m an NFL GM, coach, I’d definitely want both those guys on my team.” George Kittle expects Iowa tight ends Noah Fant and T.J. Hockenson to live up to the hype and make an impact as rookies starting on Day 1.Both Hawkeyes are expected to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft next week after catching teams’ eye at Iowa, a football program that has developed a reputation for producing pro tight ends like … Kittle.last_img read more

first_imgDES MOINES — Two eastern Iowa legislators — both Democrats — have urged leaders to take more precautions in the state capitol to prevent the spread of Covid-19.Senator Bill Dotzler of Waterloo suggests the legislature complete its work as quickly as possible and adjourn for the year.  “Our capitol is certainly a place where different viruses and colds are spread easily because people come from all over the state of Iowa, meet with us…and it’s very easy quite often stuff is transmitted through this capitol,” Dotzler says.Dotzler has suggested hand sanitizer dispensers be placed throughout the statehouse.  “It might help remind some of the individuals that are out there to shake our hands that, I guess, we should probably work more toward fist bumps or elbow bumps,” Dotzler says.Senator Joe Bolkcom of Iowa City says getting the 2020 legislative session concluded quickly makes some sense. “I know across the state businesses are preparing,” Bolkcom says. “I know our universities are preparing for classes not to continue and figuring out how to finish the semester online.”Bolkcom made his comments late last week, BEFORE state officials revealed there are SEVEN presumptive positive cases of Covid-19 in Johnson County.  “The capitol is a place where people from all over the state visit on a daily basis. It’s kind of an incumbator for colds and flus and potentially the spread of Covid-19,” Bolkcom says. “I hope we don’t have to deal with it.”The top Republican in the Iowa Senate says legislative leaders are talking with the governor on a regular basis and prepared to follow her recommendations.last_img read more
