Month: March 2021 Forest Hills Stadium Has A Secret Concert VIP Room Inside This Porta-Potty

first_imgNew York City is a place of many hidden doorways, but how about hidden concert seats? The Forest Hills Stadium, which dates back to the 1960s with legendary performances from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and more, is the former home to the US Open and was revived as a concert venue in 2013. In recent renovations came the brilliant idea to include a few hidden hangouts throughout the venue. One of them includes a porta potty. This particular VIP room isn’t your average box viewing, members only, password-protected establishment. It’s a hidden room beyond the doorway of an ordinary porta potty that you need a 9-volt battery to get into. The porta potty VIP room can be accessed by using a special battery given by the all-knowing venue staffers (and other Very Important People), which is then used to open a makeshift lock. Once inside the room, there’s a concert haven complete with comfy couches, prime viewing of the show, and free-flowing booze galore. Though, it’s not very easy to find.  [photos by Ron Asadorian via NYPost]“We thought it’d be funny if people standing in line for the [real] porta-potties suddenly saw 20 people come out of one, like a clown car,” explained Mike Luba, president of Madison House Presents, who recently teamed with the venue for a series of upcoming shows. “Half the time, people trying to find the room open the door to a potty and just find somebody taking a leak,” a staff member of the stadium security crew told the New York Post.Apparently, the stadium hosts a few of these strangely-located hangouts around the stadium floor. Another spot goes by the “Raccoon Room” because of the family of raccoons that were discovered inside, with one of them reportedly munching on a Milk Dud. With its recent renovations, it now holds a self-serve bar and is password-protected with a new term assigned to every event. According to the New York Post, “sitting atop the bar is a taxidermied raccoon holding a box of Milk Duds.” Then there’s the Sign Room, also password-protected, which used to be where the US Open’s sign painter once worked. “We’re pretty sure he was living or at least sleeping in [it],” Luba explains. “When we found this place, there was a cot in it.” The room is filled with hand-painted signs with the names of professional and amateur tennis players, alongside the new age concert posters that promote shows by the Replacements, Ed Sheeran, The Who, and Mumford & Sons. “Without naming names,” Luba says, “it’s not unknown for artists to utilize these spaces to party well after the crowd has gone home.”Needless to say, the Forest Hills Stadium is way cooler than we initially thought — and they have some pretty awesome shows coming up in conjunction with Madison House Presents beginning with Flight of the Conchords and Chris Stapleton this month. See here for all show info and ticketing details!last_img read more

Month: March 2021 Arcade Fire Announces New Album And Tour, Drops Title Track Produced By Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter

first_imgFor fans of Arcade Fire, today has been a good day. Huge news has been coming from the band, including confirmation of a new album, the announcement of a North American tour, and the official release of brand-new music from the group. Arcade Fire’s newest album, Everything Now, is due out on July 28th via Columbia—the band has not released an album since 2013’s Reflektor. It’s been clear this album has been in the works when considering that the group released “I Give You Power” featuring Mavis Staples to benefit the ACLU back in January and debuted six new songs during an intimate performance in Montreal earlier this month.Listen To Mavis Staples And Arcade Fire’s Live Cover Of Talking Heads’ “Slippery People”To coincide with the announcement of the album, Everything Now, Arcade Fire also dropped the record’s title track. “Everything Now” was co-produced by Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, who seemed to have lent his disco-esque pop sensibilities to the song. The catchy and upbeat number increasingly gets dramatic throughout its course, with the audio from the crowd at their performance at VooDoo Festival in New Orleans last year sampled toward the end layered with a full chorus. While technically the premiere of the song (and its subsequent music video), “Everything Now” was initially released via an extremely limited batch of 12-inch vinyls sold at Primavera Sound in Spain, ahead of their performance at the festival this weekend. For the other big announcement of the day, Arcade Fire announced that they would be touring North America in the fall following their European tour across the summer. Their first American date is for their already-announced slot at Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 6th. Following this performance, after a month off, the group will hit the road, starting first in Quebec City at Centre Videotron on September 5th. The group hits  New York City’s Madison Square Garden on September 12th before winding their way down the east coast of the United States eventually landing in Texas at the end of the month. Arcade Fire will then return to Canada, this time on the west coast, before hitting a number of dates across California, Washington, Colorado, Missouri, and Nevada, before closing out the United States leg of their tour in St. Paul, Minnesota. Month: March 2021 Phil Lesh, Nikki Bluhm, Robert Randolph, Preservation Hall Band, & More Make Magic In NJ [Videos/ Photos]

first_imgOn Thursday, October 26th, Phil Lesh hit the Asbury Park Convention Center, marking his return to the tri-state area (save occasional visits to New York City) for the first time since his 2013 East Coast tour. Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band was joined by singer Nicki Bluhm and steel pedal virtuoso Robert Randolph, with the ensemble coming on stage about 8:30 pm to a loud and thunderous roar from over three-thousand energetic fans. With the opening beat and guitar riffs of Johnny Cash’s “Big River”, this old building started shaking and swaying with each passing note. Grahame Lesh, on vocals and guitar, wove the song to a scenic vista with Ross James and Grahame trading guitar solos throughout.“Big River” [Video: Borrowed Tune]Nicki Bluhm and Robert Randolph led the band on an energetic and passionate “To Rise you Fall”, and half-way through the song, Randolph kicked his chair out of the way to stand and wail on his steel pedal guitar. “Ramble on Rose” was up next, featuring soaring guitar and vocals and triumphant lighting. “Girl from North Country” featured the beautiful harmonies of Nicki, Grahame, and Alex ahead of a soulful “West LA Fadeaway” and set closer “Scarlet Begonias”.Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Nicki Bluhm, Robert Randolph, Preservation Hall Jazz Band In DC [Audio]The second set started out with a powerful “Jack Straw”, during which the fierce jamming led to Robert Randolph breaking one of his strings, though the seasoned musician continued on without a hitch. Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” brought out the soul in the band, while the iconic Grateful Dead masterpieces “St. Stephen” and “Eleven” saw thunderous booms from Phil’s bass, towering guitar solos from both Grahame and Ross, and continuous sing-alongs from the crowd.Preservation Hall Jazz Band (PHJB), a 50-plus-year-old institution out of New Orleans, gave Phil and Family a mid-set break and they did not disappoint! Ben Jaffe (Bass/Tuba), Clint Maedgen (Sax), Ronell Johnson (Trombone), Water Harris (Drums), Kyle Roussel (Piano), and Branden Lewis (Trumpet) kicked it old school during their 20+ minute set. High energy, flashy showmanship, and smiles abounded throughout their set. The mutual appreciation and love of the music, each other, and the crowd was very genuine and apparent. Phil Lesh and Family joined PHJB on stage for the transition into “Dark Star v2” which was a treat to see. As the song wound down, most of PHJB the band left the stage, though the horn section remained for the rest of the night.Phil Lesh Announces “Phriendsgiving” With Tom Hamilton, Holly Bowling, & MoreNext up was the iconic triple-play Grateful Dead classic “Help on the Way” > “Slipnot” > “Franklin’s Tower”. This seamless three-song segue alone is already amazing, but with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band horns, the combination was magic in its truest form. The last song of the evening was Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away”, a virtual Deadhead sing-a-long that lasted longer than the actual music and closed out the magical show on a wonderful high. With a final bow from everyone in both bands, the happy crowd filtered out to a beautiful star-filled night with the moon hanging brightly in the sky.“Not Fade Away” [Video: rdeal1999]The “Big River” moved into the sweet and mysterious “Rubin and Cherise”.  Jason Crosby’s keys provided a funkadelic groove as Alex Koford provided a solid rhythm with vocals reminiscent of a young Jerry Garcia. With the first few notes, the crowd went wild for “Friend of the Devil”. Phil’s passionate vocals alongside the background vocals of every single person in the crowd turned up the energy to another level.“Rubin & Cherise” Photo: Bob Schultzcenter_img [Video: rdeal1999]Setlist: Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band with Nikki Bluhm, Robert Randolph, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band | Asbury Park Convention Center | Asbury Park, NJ | 10/26/2017Set One: Big River, Rubin & Cherise, Friend of the Devil, To Rise you Fall, Ramble on Rose, Girl from North Country, West LA Fadeaway, Scarlet BegoniasSet Two: Jack Straw, Dear Mr Fantasy, St Stephen > Eleven > St Stephen, Dark Star v1, Preservation Hall Jazz Band Set, Dark Star v2*, Help on the Way* > Slipnot* > Franklin’s Tower*, Not Fade Away **with Preservation Hall Jazz Band HornsPhil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band | Asbury Park Convention Center | Asbury Park, NJ | 10/26/2017 | Photo: Bob Schultz Load remaining imageslast_img read more
