Tipp make winning start to league campaign

first_imgThe Premier County proved much too strong for their under-par opponents and ran out 1-23 to 0-12 winners.Michael Ryan’s side – who were playing their first competitive match since he took over the Tipp hot seat – had the breeze in their favour in the opening half and weren’t long getting into their stride.Jason Forde, who finished up with 1-5 from play, got the game’s only goal after 13 minutes when he got onto a loose ball to fire past Dublin netminder Conor Dooley. John McGrath contributed 0-7, 0-5 of which came from frees. His brother Noel, who was making his first start for the Blue and Gold since beating cancer last year, also made an impact on the scoreboard – he got 0-2.Conor Kenny (0-3) and Pádraic Maher (0-2) were the other starting players that registered scores.Substitue John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer registered 0-3 after coming on for debutant Dan McCormack while Dylan Fitzelle, who replaced Patrick Maher, also put one over the bar. However, manager Michael Ryan will probably be a little dissapointed with the number of wides his side struck, particularly in the first half when the target was missed on ten occasions.Tipperary next’s Division 1A outing is against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park on Sunday Feburary 21st.last_img
